I’ve never wanted another car and imagined driving this specific example for at least another 4-8 years, but am inclined to sell my “total loss” 2003 e46 M3. Has 82.2k miles on her s54 3.2 liter inline-six engine with 6-speed manual transmission.
Car was declared a total loss when I slid and hit the side of an underpass during a rainstorm. Only broke the rear driver side control arm, but because driver door and curtain airbags went off, car was totaled by insurance. The first pictures were taken on 8/2, immediately after the accident and shows the impact on the driver’s side wheel well. The third was taken on 8/25, when I drove it onto my buddies trailer and shows the total exterior damage (mirror and door handle are functioning, but scuffed). Next pictures are of the two deployed airbags on driver door and driver ceiling headliner (only airbags deployed).
The car is in great mechanical condition…no dash lights / engine lights (expect airbag light and tail light, the later was on before the accident). The driver side suspension is the only mechanical damage from the total loss inspection paperwork (happy to send). Able to test drive once control arm installed (hopefully by end of month). The owner before me installed a short shifter, otherwise has entirely OEM parts outside of the wheels. Windows and interior features all working 100%. I replaced full rear brakes and rear bushing in 2020, full front brakes and rear suspension in 2019. Have full-service records for the 28k miles I drove (purchased in 2016 – last two pictures are from then) with most service records from previous owners. Full 09/2020 Carfax report available. The car is a Titian Silver with Imola red interior on 19’s with tints.
Figured a more mechanically inclined e46 enthusiast might be interested in getting this cheap before I consider fixing over the winter. I was quoted $12.2k initially (60.8 hours of work for the damage shown) and 10k elsewhere to replace the airbags and install a new side for the exterior damage. The little red kidney shaped leather piece pictured, for example, requires the entire interior door to be replaced apparently. Instead of shopping around body shops, I’ve been looking at the X3M, which is why I’m listing.
Please message if interested and be please be patient. Happy to take offers on the engine w/ matching transmission (that you can actually test drive!), as both body shops I took it to asked if I’d sell the car for salvage/parts. Current offer of $6500 must be beat.
If your message does not include the following, I may not respond.
-Are you available to meet in Lisle, IL to inspect/test drive/pick up the car?
-The most you would be willing to offer above $6500 (or offer after professional inspection etc.)
